Asbestos
and Hazardous Materials Inspections/Registers
The Asbestos/Hazardous
Materials register involves a survey of all accessible areas of the building
for the type, condition and extent of any asbestos/hazardous building materials
that might be present, including asbestos, lead in paint, lead in dust and
PCB’s.
An Asbestos/Hazardous
Materials Register will constitute an Asbestos Register under the National
Occupational Health & Safety Commission (NOHSC) Code of Practice for the
Safe Removal of Asbestos 2nd Edition [NOHSC: 2002(2005)] and the Code of
Practice for Management and Control of Asbestos in Workplaces [NOHSC:
2018(2005)] and will conform to the requirements of the NSW Occupational Health
and Safety Act 2000 and the NSW Occupational Health and Safety Regulation 2001.
Risk
Assessments & Management Plans
A risk assessment is
simply an examination of a place or process for sources of potential
danger/harm (hazards) to people adjusted for the likelihood of them to give
potential risk. All potential risks/hazards must be mitigated to an acceptable
level through the hierarchy of control:
- Elimination
- controlling the hazard at source.
- Substitution
- eg. replacing one substance or activity with a less hazardous one.
- Engineering
- eg. installing guards on machinery
- Administration
- policies and procedures for safe work practices
- Personal
Protective Equipment - eg respirators, ear plugs.
A Management Plan
prepared by SPA Trade Services is a living document that ensures that potential
risks are continually assessed and managed. The Management Plan details all of
the hazards and the mitigation requirements to maintain a safe workplace. The
Management Plan ensures that regular checks of the hazards are undertaken and
signed off by a competent person.
